INTERVIEW- PIA NAERA- FOUNDER OF PIA BOUTIQUE
After a recent trip to NZ and researching up and coming new Designers which have appeared in my local high street and Designer shopping destinations. I was so pleased to see that PIA Boutique has come back after a little rest and her styles are as bright and eye-catching as ever! I caught up with the Boss lady Pia Naera to talk about her stunning business!
Tell us a bit about your background and what drew you to the Fashion world?
When I finished school I applied to study Graphic Design and Fashion, it was a hard decision but for some reason, I decided to study Graphic Design. At the end of my degree, I was fascinated with the relationship between graphic design and fashion which I decided to pursue. Now I have the best of both worlds, designing graphics print for my fashion label PIA.
Tell us about PIA Boutique and how it was born?
I had a year off work due to health problems one I had finished studying, I am the type of person who needs to always be busy. So during my year of bed rest, I decided to start a casual website selling my PIA printed garments, in the first year of business I was showcasing at NZFW through Miromoda (with a cast on my foot and all) and it snowballed from there. The next year I opened a store in Parnell, showcased our own show at NZFW and here I am!
What would you say sets your products apart from any other?
Definitely designing my own eye-catching prints, something no other brand can offer is my exclusive prints.
What would you say is your favourite thing about the business?
Designing and meeting my gorgeous customers.
What is your happiest moment from the business?
There are a lot of happy moments, but sometimes my customers take the time out to send me a gorgeous email once they have received their piece saying how much they love it, that kind feedback makes my day! And driving down the road and seeing a girl wearing a PIA piece.
What has been your career highlight?
One of them is being the youngest NZ designer to host our own NZFW show. That was pretty cool.
What do you see for PIA Boutique in the future?
Lots of exciting things in the pipeline, but at the moment we are focusing on our NZFW show on 1st of September and also moving to our brand new PIA Store in Ponsonby next week.
What advice would you give to aspiring Boss ladies wanting to start their own brand?
Surround yourself with people who have been in business before, learn from them and get mentors on board. When you’re young and passionate it’s easy to fall into the trap of being too excited, it’s great to have someone who has lots of knowledge and can help guide you to get your business where it needs to be.
