SUBURBAN LIVING VS CITY LIFE

SUBURBAN LIVING VS CITY LIFE

I was recently reflecting on a few things last week. I’m sure many of us are asking the question “Where am I going to be in the future?” Living in London can be a great thing. I do however feel like I am living in Neverland sometimes where you never really grow old. When you are in this bubble of the Big Smoke you get so caught up in working, travelling and socializing that time passes you by so quickly and by the time you know it a year, 2 years, 5 years have gone by. It’s only really when you take yourself out of the city and look at what’s been happening around you that you realise how time has passed by. Some things to know if your planning on making the move as the grass is always greener on the other side.

Suburban Living

Pros

You are constantly breathing in fresh air
Your house will be a castle or at least 3 bedrooms
You can drive!
You seem very grown up and ready to plan for your future
Supermarkets are stocked with absolutely everything you could possibly need or want
You have peace and quiet
There’s no place like home!

Cons

Most places shut early and are closed all day Sunday.
You will have to drive! As public transport is few and far between.
You may have peace and quiet, but you may run out of things to do very quickly.
Dining out will be limited and you will have to go to more chains.
Unless you have joined the club having a family you’ll find that socialising with friends included socialising with their kids too!
Designer and sample sales seem like a distant memory.

City Life

Pros

Nothing ever really closes. There is always something open where you can grab whatever you need. Milk and say unicorn stamps.
Everything is on your doorstep if not it’s a quick booking on an app! Manicures, blow-dry, dry-cleaning you name it.
You will never get through the amount of theatre shows you want to see.
Samples sales for absolutely everything happen every 3 months!
Your social life will be booming as there is always drinks, dinner or a rooftop you need to go to after work.
The best dining experiences are endless, and they seem to keep popping up every time you open your eyes.
You will never get bored of activity there is always something new.

Cons

You are breathing in everything that the beautiful city has to offer (like it or not)
The tubes and public transport will force you to get to know every man and their armpit.
You never get any peace. There are always fire trucks, ambulance and builders everywhere you turn.
There is so much going on you often can feel a bit overwhelmed. A good life coach or therapist is a must if you live in the big smoke.
It is very pricey! You may have the best of everything, but it can come with a price. Buddying up with someone who knows the city can introduce you to the hidden gems.
You will be living in shared accommodation with at least 3 people. Some are lucky enough to live on their own or with one other. But if you are 90% of the population get ready to share the fridge space.
As above, you will be house sharing and therefore you will have to start planning a bathroom schedule if you don’t want to be fighting over shower times in the morning.

Which would you choose? x
